Screen is black or blank

The TV is on but nothing's playing. Work through these checks in order.

Use-case

Your screen shows a black or blank image even though the TV appears powered on. The fix is almost always power, HDMI, or an energy-saving setting.

Quick checklist

  1. Power — TV and device are plugged in and on. Look for the blue light on TV Box.

  2. HDMI — the TV input matches the port the device uses. Cable is seated at both ends.

  3. Energy settings — no eco mode or aggressive standby disabling HDMI output.

Steps

1. Check power

  • Confirm both the TV and the TV Box / Fire Stick are plugged in and switched on.

  • Fire Stick or Android stick — use wall power, not the TV's USB port. TVs cut USB power in standby.

  • FRAMEN TV Box — look for the blue indicator light. If it's off, the box isn't powered.

2. Check the HDMI connection

  • TV input must match the HDMI port the device is plugged into (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.).

  • Re-seat the HDMI cable at both ends.

  • Swap HDMI ports to rule out a bad port.

  • Swap the HDMI cable to rule out a bad cable.

3. Check the TV Box / device status

For the FRAMEN TV Box: if the box is powered but the screen is blank, the box may be asleep or hung.

  1. Unplug the power cable.

  2. Wait 30 seconds.

  3. Plug back in.

You can also check the time display on the TV Box boot screen — if it's wrong, see Date & Time below.

4. Turn off energy optimisation

TVs often ship with "eco mode" or "energy saver" settings that cut HDMI output or shorten standby timers. These are the leading cause of blank screens.

  1. Open your TV's settings menu.

  2. Find Energy / Eco / Power options.

  3. Disable any "auto-off", "no-signal-off", or aggressive standby settings.

5. Check date & time

If the device clock is wrong, the player won't authenticate with servers and won't load content.

  1. Open the device's system settings.

  2. Set Date & Time to Automatic.

  3. Save and reboot.

Good to know

  • If power, HDMI, energy settings, and clock are all fine and the screen is still blank, contact FRAMEN support with your Screen ID (see Find your Screen ID), device model, and a photo of what's on screen.

  • If you've ruled out everything above, the box or stick may be faulty. See Return or replace a TV Box / TV Stick.
